Description
The Athletic Director will report to the Head of School and join a highly collaborative, innovative, and experienced faculty. The primary purpose of this position is to oversee, plan, and direct the physical education program and all athletic activities for the school, as well as dynamic leadership, vision, and direction for campus-wide athletics, physical fitness, and health education. Dedication to the independent school setting is a must.
Responsibilities:
- Represent Woodlands Academy in the IHSA and ISL and at various regional and state athletic competitions and associations.
- Work with the Leadership Team to continue to innovate and develop a strategic vision for athletics at Woodlands Academy.
- In collaboration with the principal and the physical education faculty, evaluate and advance the physical education and health curricula.
- Schedule all athletic and post season competitions and any required transportation, game officials, and game workers.
- Attract, hire, and supervise qualified coaching staff for all athletic programs.
- Supervise all home games.
- Develop and provide appropriate training guidelines and materials for coaching staff, ensuring that all coaches understand the philosophy and mission of Sacred Heart education and athletic program.
- Ensure that all coaching staff have required current CPR, first aid, concussion protocol training and certifications.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee all school athletic activities including, but not limited to, team sports, summer athletic camps, awards ceremony, and other athletic events that the school may hold.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in physical education or a related subject matter. Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in an athletics-related role in an educational environment.
- Successful background working with student athletes and coaches.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, with a professional and empathetic approach.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to build positive relationships with high school students; a powerful student mentor.
- The ability to draw people in for collaboration, curriculum development, and problem-solving; a trusted and sought-after colleague.
- High-level of familiarity and competence across cultures and multiple perspectives.
