Description
The Athletic Director is responsible for the development, management, coordination, and supervision of a competitive high school athletics program. The Athletic Director also (1) provides visionary leadership, strategic planning, and development for the athletics program; (2) maintains an athletics program that is committed to the mission of Destiny Christian Academy; (3) administers the overall athletic budget; and (4) recruits and manages the coaching staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Directs and hires coaches who are committed not only to winning but to the welfare of students. Prepares the coaching salary grid and coordinates coaches’ hiring with Human Resources.
- Supports and encourages the current academic standards and expectations of all Destiny Christian Academy student athletes. Oversees academic advising and works in conjunction with the High School Principal to facilitate student academic success.
- Develop annual Athletics department budget, review and control expenditures from athletics accounts. Provide leadership for Booster and other athletics club fundraising activities.
- Supervise utilization of the athletic facilities; coordinate athletic uses of training and weight room facilities; recommend and review policies for student and community use of facilities at Destiny Christian Academy; recommend changes, repairs, and improvement of athletic equipment and facilities.
- Establishes effective communications and involvement with students, faculty, and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Athletics, Physical Education, or a closely related field.
- Master’s degree in Athletic Administration or a closely related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience to demonstrate core competencies.
- Has strong management and fiscal skills.
- Ability to interpret, prioritize, and advocate for the strategic needs of the Athletics department.
- Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to motivate people.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning.
- Strong background in the rules and regulations of high school athletic sports. Possesses knowledge of effective behavior management methods.
