Description
JOB GOAL:
To insure through coaches and assistant coaches that the district’s athletic program provides all students with appropriate and equal opportunities to participate in meaningful extracurricular athletic activities that will foster the enhancement and development of physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, and a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sports and the principles of sportsmanship and fair play.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hold at the time of appointment a valid certification as an athletic coach in the State of Rhode Island.
- Have a minimum of three- (3) years experience as a secondary school coach or comparable experience.
- Be familiar with the details and activities of managing an interscholastic athletic program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement a district-wide athletic philosophy and oversee its application in all district athletic activities.
- Arrange for all payments and fees associated with the athletic programs.
- Maintain all health records as required by the school district and the participating leagues.
- Represent the school district at all league meetings whenever possible.
- Coordinate all athletic schedules, use of district facilities, and in concert with other district personnel, arrange for the maintenance and upkeep of all athletic facilities and equipment.
- Review annually the school’s participation in interscholastic sports and make appropriate recommendations for the addition of new sports or new coaches.
- Attend as many school athletic events as schedule permits.
- Review all communications prepared by assistants and coaches to athletes, families, and the community-at-large, recommend changes if necessary and submit to the superintendent for perusal and permission to disseminate.
