This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Coach – Youth Sports will lead in teaching the assigned sport(s). The Coach is responsible for ensuring the safety of the students enrolled in his/her sport, must be knowledgeable about all aspects of coaching multiple age groups and must encourage the highest standards of conduct and scholastic achievement among all athletes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead challenging and educational practice sessions.
- Instruct group in accordance with YMCA guidelines and rules of the game.
- Uphold, model, teach and put the four (4) core values of the YMCA into action in all activities - everyday: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
- Maintain good relationship with Students, parents and sports officials.
- Maintain professional appearance and report on time to all scheduled practices and games.
- Strive to develop the qualities of leadership, initiative and good judgement in all athletes.
- Develop habits that promote good health and sound training rules.
- Create a positive and nurturing learning environment to instill and encourage youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with teaching and/or playing basketball.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of basketball.
- Flexible schedule.
- Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
- Previous experience working with children preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.
