Description
It is the job of every athletic coach to instill positive and ethical values in student athletes through sports. The program should facilitate the social and emotional growth of every student athlete while also improving athletic skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and implement an athlete-centered coaching philosophy.
- Fulfill all legal responsibilities and risk management procedures associated with coaching including CPR, AED, and Concussion Protocol certifications prior to the start of the sport season.
- Must have completed a NC based Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association approved course in the care and prevention of athletic injuries prior to the beginning of the designated season of the sport.
- Must earn Accredited Interscholastic Coach certification from the National Federation of High Schools by the end of the first year of coaching.
- Know and understand the skills and strategies associated with the sport.
- Identify, model and teach positive values and behaviors through sports.
- Demonstrate effective game management.8. Prevent injuries by ensuring the facility and equipment is safe and appropriate.
- Monitor environmental conditions and modify participation as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated management, leadership and human relations skills.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions.
- Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to the duties and responsibilities listed below.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school may find appropriate and acceptable.

- Knowledgeable of all Conference and related procedures and guidelines.
