Description
Under the direction of the MSA Coordinator, the MSA Coach will instruct middle school athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success in their program. Coaches will strive to provide each student with the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity.
Major Job Responsibilities:
- Supervises student athletes to promote effective student learning through participation in athletic activities.
- Plans, develops, and implements an effective program for the identified sport to prepare athletes both physically and mentally to participate with confidence and self-assurance in athletic contests.
- Prepares and conducts practice sessions that are both stimulating and instructive.
- Practices will teach basic fundamental sport skills, as well as emphasize and promote good sportsmanship in the conduct of team members and coaches.
- Assumes responsibility for all phases of the program involving coordination of facility use in conjunction with MSA Coordinator.
- Communicates effectively, positively and professionally with athletes, parents, officials and school administrators.
- Establishes an effective system for issuing and returning equipment and maintaining records including dates and times of issuance.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 21 years of age (WIAA regulation).
- Minimum of two years of experience as an assistant coach.
- Knowledge of effective coaching practices/techniques for the identified sport.
- OR any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work and that meets federal and state requirements. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be evaluated by the Athletics Director and MSA Coordinator.
- Experience working with children prefer.
