The Middle School Boys Cross Country Coach provides instruction and supervision for students in the Middle School. The individual in this position serves in a manner that advances and upholds the mission and philosophy of Winchester Thurston School. The Middle School Boys Cross Country Coach performs under the general direction of the Head of School and under the supervision of the Director of Athletics. He/she will work collaboratively with students, other coaches, faculty and parents.
The successful candidate will have coaching experience in the sport for which they are applying. The individual in this position must exhibit emotional maturity, objectivity, and sensitivity to students, parents, and colleagues and their concerns. He/she must be able to handle responsibility, work independently as well as within a team, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families, administration, colleagues, and other coaches/players. Excellent skills in verbal and written communications are required.
The Middle School Boys Cross Country Coach is responsible for the following:
Provide instruction to students in improving their skills and strategy in the sport.
Complies with and supports with rules, regulations and policies of the school, the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL), and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA).
Assists in maintaining high academic and behavioral standards for all student athletes.
Supervises, directs and coordinates student athletic practices.
Interacts with student athletes, teachers, parents, and the WT community to build enthusiasm and program support.
Communicates promptly with students/parents regarding practice and game schedules.
Fosters an appreciation for and an attitude of good sportsmanship and a sense of pride in self, team, school and community.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Reports student disciplinary issues to the Director of Athletics.
Keep records of statistics for teams and players.
Ensure any student who is injured receives appropriate first aid, working in collaboration with the trainer.
Attend all awards assemblies and identify students who should receive awards.
Reports scores and scorers to local media and work with the Marketing and Communications Office regarding interviews or inquiries about WT teams or players.
Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities, respecting the worth, dignity, and individual differences of others.
Attends all required meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
