Boys’ Swimming – Assistant Coach

Responsibilities:

• Protect student-athlete safety by teaching safe practices, inspecting equipment and evaluating student-athlete readiness for specific activities.
• Instruct, motivate, supervise, and organize students participating in interscholastic athletics.
• Conform coaching conduct to professional staff work rules (e.g. appropriate language, appearance, game conduct, etc.) and be a positive role model for the program.
• Communicate goals, expectations, rules and coaching philosophy with everyone involved in the program.
• Be familiar with the WIAA Official Handbook and Season Regulations and the Oshkosh Area School District Athletic Handbook and Coaches’ Handbook.
• Orient participating athletes to the rules and regulations of the WIAA and the Oshkosh Area School District.
• Responsible for supervision of student-athletes throughout practice/games and after practice/games until the student-athlete leaves the premises.
• Responsible for building security during any practice or competition conducted during non-school hours (e.g. lock doors, turn off lights, etc.).
• When learning of an alleged violation by an athlete, inform the athletic director/school building principal and cooperatively take appropriate action.

Qualifications:

• State of Wisconsin certification as a teacher is preferred. (If not teacher certified, must complete the WIAA ASEP course within the required time period).
• Prior coaching experience preferred.
• Knowledge of and experience in the sport.
• Effective communication skills.
• Effective organizational skills.
