Description
The Director of Athletics (AD) will have administrative and programmatic oversight for the CSUSB Athletics Department, providing leadership, management, and strategic direction in accordance to NCAA Division II and CCAA Conference rules. This position is under the general direction of the Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) and has regular contact with the President.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs and administers the CSUSB Intercollegiate Athletics Department as part of a comprehensive effort to foster student-athletes’ success in the classroom, competition and in personal development.
- Propagates and refines the philosophy, guiding principles and strategic goals of the Athletics Department, which are essential to the department's success.
- Builds competence in others through effective coaching, performance management and mentoring.
- Ensures a community focused strategy to support CSUSB's mission by building effective strategic alliances internally and externally and initiates and develops strong working relationships with the community.
- Plans, directs, and coordinates a comprehensive athletics program for men and women ensuring compliance with federal, state and NCAA Title IX/Gender equity mandates.
- Works independently within functional policy and organizational guidelines.
- Administratively oversees CSUSB’s sport affiliations, including NCAA Division II and the CCAA Conference.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in business administration, higher education, athletics administration, or related field.
- A minimum of seven years of demonstrated progressive management experience in athletics administration, preferably at a college or university, including sport management, sports information, facilities and operations, external relations, and fundraising.
- Experience in direct supervision of coaches and collegiate athletics staff.
