Description
The Director of Athletics will provide innovative and strategic leadership, program development, and administration of a NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics program focused on the personal growth and development of student-athletes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish a culture of academic and competitive excellence aligned with the University’s learning goals related to Intellect, Character, Leadership and Service.
- Manage the overall operations of and planning for the Department of Athletics, including: selection, supervision and development of professional and student staff; management of annual operating and restricted budgets and stewardship of the Department’s fiscal and facility resources; event scheduling and management; public/community relations; and the administration of high quality, student-centered, innovative and cost-effective programs.
- Supervise a competitive Division III intercollegiate program that fully complies with all applicable NCAA, OAC and University policies and legislation.
- Serve as the Athletic Department’s chief ambassador and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders both on- and off-campus including those associated with Academic Affairs (including the department of Exercise Science and Sports Studies), Student Affairs, Enrollment, Advancement, Integrated Marketing and Communication (IMC), Facilities, Budget, and Mission and Identity.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Seven plus years of intercollegiate athletic Department or relevant experience.
- Proven ability to affirm, live, and embrace John Carroll University’s Jesuit and Catholic mission while leading with the highest ethical and moral standards.
- Experience in fundraising and revenue generation.
- Demonstrated commitment to the student-athlete recruitment process and the ability to collaborate with Enrollment staff.
- Commitment to excellence in academics and athletics.
- Proven ability to attract, hire, and mentor coaches and staff.
- Proven track record of progressive experience in leadership roles within complex, dynamic, and diverse organizations; including three or more years of leadership and supervisory experience.
