Description
Under administrative direction, the Director of Athletic Human Resources is responsible for leading a comprehensive human resources program that aligns with the mission and strategic objectives of Intercollegiate Athletics. This role involves overseeing all HR services, including HR operations, recruitment, training and organizational development, performance management, employee relations, policy interpretation, and creating and implementing programs that support academic professionals, civil service staff, extra help employees, graduate assistants, and student employees.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with Athletics leadership to develop long and short-term goals and objectives for the overall human resources program in support of Athletics strategic and operational goals.
- Direct, supervise, and manage the work of Athletics HR team members to ensure HR goals are met. Provide mentoring, guidance, and feedback to support career development.
- Provide leadership and expertise to senior leaders, managers, and employees in all areas of human resources, including employee and labor relations, professional development, and engagement, recruiting, performance management, and compensation.
- Serve as the liaison to various campus offices such as UIC HR, Labor and Employee Relations, the Office of Access and Equity, and Legal Counsel to address HR matters. Act as departmental expert on compensation, benefits, training/development, employee/labor relations, and UIC human resource applications.
- Provide expertise on human resource policies and issues by answering questions about policy and procedures, advising managers and supervisors, and consulting on employee performance issues and discipline processes.
- Develop policies as needed to ensure compliance with university- and state-mandated training and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of related and progressive human resources experience.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high level of discretion.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong critical-thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify organizational and business needs and drive continuous improvements.
- Excellent organization, administrative, and project management skills to prioritize and address multiple tasks.
