Description
The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz welcomes applications for the role of Director of Sports Medicine in the Department of Athletics, Wellness, & Recreation. This full-time, ten-month position will be responsible for the vision and operations for the sports medicine/athletic training services on campus for our student-athletes. They will manage the sports-medicine needs of 16 varsity teams/350 student-athletes.
Responsibilities:
- Uphold the Standards of Professional Practice for Athletic Trainers (https://www.bocatc.org/athletic-trainers/maintain-certification/standards-of-professional-practice/standards-of-professional-practice).
- Effectively manage the financial resources and human resources allotted to the program, including scheduling and supervising the Associate and Assistant Athletic Trainers.
- Ensure proper safety precautions are followed at all times. Revise, develop and implement policies to enhance the safety of New Paltz student-athletes, as well as emergency procedures to effectively respond to accidents and injuries.
- Establish clear expectations and rules for Athletic Training Room procedure and protocol in conjunction with the Student-Athlete Handbook, as well as the rules and regulations for eligibility and participation established by the NCAA.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related fields of athletic training.
- Must be eligible for New York State Training License - and obtain within 1 year of appointment; and possess NATABOC Certification as an athletic trainer.
- Demonstrated ability to establish good rapport and effective working relationships with student–athletes, coaches and staff.
- Five (5) years’ experience organizing, planning, and implementing athletic training services for intercollegiate student-athletes in a 4-year college setting.
- Ability to work weekends and observe a schedule that meets operational needs.
- Current CPR, AED, and first aid certifications required.
