Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develops, maintains, and consistently updates ability-appropriate, standards-based curriculum specific to each grade level.
- Employs various developmentally appropriate instructional strategies that encourage all students to engage in every learning experience.
- Maintains an inclusive, highly active, cognitively enriching, positive learning environment that incorporates school-wide behavioral expectations.
- Provides comprehensive safety instruction and supervision and regularly checks equipment and learning environments to ensure all students' safety.
- Promotes physical activity outside physical education class by collaborating with administration, other teachers, recess and support staff, parents, and community organizations.
- Evaluates student progress in skill, knowledge, attitude and interpersonal objectives and provides regular feedback to students, parents and school personnel regarding students’ progress.
- Maintains professional competence through involvement in professional organizations, conference attendance, district sponsored in-service education activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
- Participates in school-wide service opportunities in leadership and support capacities.
- Works cooperatively with district administration, physical education teachers, and other wellness personnel in planning a K-12, health-enhancing physical education program and district-wide wellness policies and initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with licensure and/or endorsement in the core teaching area.
- Previous experience teaching students at the elementary school level, except in the case of a new college graduate and/or
- Previous experience teaching in the specific content area, except in the case of a new college graduate.
