Description
Essential Functions and Tasks:
- Manages and coaches team during all scheduled athletic practices and contests.
- Assists and supports in selecting members of competitive school athletics teams.
- Stores and maintains athletic equipment.
- Coaches and supervises students at daily practices and competitions throughout season; stays after practice and home games to secure equipment and facilities.
- Avoids foul language and encourages good sportsmanship of athletes by personal behavior and expected behavior of athletes; emphasizes fundamental skills and technique development; is flexible and works well with other coaches; supports academic and fine arts program; and supervises his/her team until the final day of the season, as assigned by the Director of Physical Education and Athletics.
- Supervises students and assures a safe environment for students, including at carpool and in the locker room.
- Consults with nurse or appropriate professional to assure the safety of students participating in athletic sports; transports first aid kits to accompany all athletic events on or off campus; transports student emergency health information for all athletic events; maintains current first aid and CPR certification.
- Reports severe injuries immediately to the parents and the Director of Physical Education and Athletics; submits completed Accident Report Form to the Director of Physical Education and Athletics.
- Informs parents, Director of Physical Education and Athletics, and the Nurse of any injuries and illnesses that occur in practices and games.
Qualifications:
- Experience in playing and/or coaching selected sport(s).
- Well-rounded knowledge of physical conditioning and skill development methods specific to the sport.
- A valid First Aid Certificate, including CPR training, preferred.
- Current certificate for Safeguarding God’s Children, preferred.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and oral expression.
- Ability to relate effectively with parents, students, and other school constituent groups and individuals.
