Description
The Head Age Group Swim Coach promotes and ensures a positive swim team experience for all Darien YMCA Piranha team members. The HAGSC is responsible for coaching the program’s 6–12-year-old age group in competitive swim techniques and developing and improving their skills. The HAGSC reports to and works with the Head Swim Coach to create full season training plans, strategies, and communicating with swimmers, coaches, and parents.
Qualifications:
- 3 Years of swim coaching experience with at least 1 year as lead coach.
- Must hold current CPR, Lifeguarding and/or Coaches Safety Training certifications or ability to obtain prior to employment.
- Member in good standing with USA Swimming.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Essential Functions:
- Lead coach for developmental pre-team. Conduct group practices and teach competitive swimming techniques to athletes of a wide range of ages and abilities.
- Use professional knowledge and judgement to plan and implement appropriate daily workouts.
- Supervise and delegate responsibilities to assistant coaches to ensure proper techniques are being taught and athletes are learning and improving.
- Develop season plans for different age and ability groups to fit in with the overall team and head coach philosophy.
- Assists with team tryouts, individual evaluations, Masters Swim Program, and/or other team-related programs.
- Participates and/or assists in coordination of Swim Club events and functions.
- Ensure daily and season-long training is age and ability appropriate. Modify training for athletes in case of injury or over-training.
- Manages meet entries for developmental group swimmers and coordinates appropriate coach coverage for those meets.
- Attend and coach weekend swim meets as necessary and directed. Participate in team social events.
