Description
Scope of Responsibility:
- Assists the head coach in providing overall supervision of the baseball/softball program.
- Assists the head coach in maintenance, inventory, and issuance of all equipment.
- Builds sportsmanship as well as provides good public relations in the school and community.
- Ensures all student athletes have a current physical exam.
- Ensures that all student athletes have adequate insurance coverage as specified by the JPPSS and the LHSAA, and that proper documentation on each student signed by the parent / legal guardian to purchase or decline extra insurance exists.
- Participates in professional development through workshops, literature, clinics and seminars.
- Acquires thirty-six (36) Continuing Learning Units (CLUs) per year (July 1 through June 30).
- Adheres to Parish and State requirements for promptly reporting rosters, schedules, scores, eligibility or documentation of incidents or injuries.
- Cooperates, communicates and works with the school based athletic director and administrator in charge of athletics.
- Performs all duties as assigned by the principal and or appropriate administrator. Skills and Qualifications:
- The coach must be able to communicate in Standard English, both orally and in writing and or digitally.
- Must have the ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication system and be able to communicate successfully and tactfully with students, parents and school personnel while following JPPSS policies.
Qualifications:
- Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate, CECP completion and/or current LHSAA requirements Possess a CDL class B or above with a P and S endorsement free of air brake restrictions.
- Meet all requirements of the Louisiana Department of Education school bus driver component.
- Employment with the Jefferson Parish Public School System as a teacher and/or administrator. Must meet the requirements in Article 3.3 (Faculty Coaches) of the LHSAA handbook.
- Demonstrated expertise, knowledge and competency in basic baseball/softball fundamentals.
- Professional knowledge of LHSAA and JPPSS rules and regulations for baseball/softball.
- Expertise, knowledge and competency in conditioning of athletes sport specific.
