Description
Head coaching responsibilities include management of all facets of the softball program, including but not limited to: coaching/teaching, recruiting, budget management, administration, scheduling of competitions, team travel, weekly practice sessions, hiring and supervision of assistant coaches/interns, community service, counseling of students, and compliance with NCAA, conference and college rules and regulations. The head coach will also serve as the main liaison with softball field maintenance.
Essential Functions:
- Develop a program of athlete recruitment commensurate with the aims and goals of Regis College and appropriate for a member of the NCAA, Division III.
- Plan and coordinate practice and game plans for intercollegiate competition.
- Determine policies and procedures for team selection and athlete participation.
- Make recommendations about game schedules and budget for the team.
- Track the academic progress of softball student-athletes and provide appropriate advice and assistance to help insure the successful completion of each players stated program of study.
- Manage inventory tracking and storage of all team uniforms and equipment.
- Effectively manage team budget ensuring balanced expenditures for equipment, travel, recruiting and other team related operating expenses.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising program to raise funds necessary to offset expenses associated for non-budgeted expenses and training trips.
- Organize community service projects for softball players to complete per the mission of the NCAA, the Regis Athletic Department and Regis College.
- Evaluate game officials as required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred.
- Collegiate softball playing & coaching experience preferred.
- Maintain ethical and professional boundaries with students and student-athletes.
- Strong organizational skills required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, computer literacy and strong interpersonal skills to work with various college constituencies.
- The ability to work a flexible and irregular schedule.
- Works well as a team member or independently.
- Excels in prioritizing multiple tasks with attention to detail, problem solving and follow-through to consistently meet expectations and deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and computer literacy, including familiarity with EMR software.
- Appropriate certifications in First Aid/CPR and AED are required within an appropriate time of hire and must be completed (per NCAA regulations) before the beginning of the competitive season.
