Description
The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach oversees the strength and conditioning programming for all varsity sports at Colorado Mesa University. S/he will lead the department in establishing and maintaining a strength and conditioning program that will improve overall athletic performance (i.e., speed, strength), reduce athletic injuries, increase movement skills, while annually assessing student-athletes to increase optimal athletic performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reduces the likelihood of sports-related injuries or the aggravation of such injuries during practice sessions and scheduled contests by being knowledgeable of the injuries sustained in the sport and proper prevention methods, directing appropriate pre-training session and pre-contest preparations and warm-ups, and working with Athletic Training Staff and team doctors during all training sessions and contests.
- Promotes a positive image of the intercollegiate athletics program and the University by participating in community and professional organizations, representing the University at professional meetings and on conference committees, establishing and maintaining credible relations with various entities.
- Coordinate the return to play protocol for injured student-athletes, along with designing programs to expedite return to play for student-athletes who are injured or returning from surgical procedures in conjunction with the Athletic Training Staff.
- Abides by and complies with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rules, academic standards, requirements, and policies of the University, and all guidelines and policies of the Athletics department and reports any concerns of compromise or violation of rules, standards, guidelines or policies to the Director of Athletics or the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Services.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- A bachelor's degree in exercise science/kinesiology, human performance, or related field with 3 years' experience required.
- Preferred qualifications include a master's degree with a minimum of 5 years' experience in strength and conditioning in intercollegiate athletics, professional sports, or extensive experience with a professional strength and conditioning organization.
- Must have a valid certification from a nationally accredited strength and conditioning organization with current CPR/AED First Aid Certification.
- Additional preferred qualifications include a strong background in weight room organization and management, knowledge of nutrition, familiarity with rehabilitation programs for student-athletes and a athletic training certification.
