Description
The Head Coach is responsible for the overall management of the program, including training plans, meet preparation, and coordination with school staff and families. The coach will serve as a role model to student-athletes and guide them toward success both on the course and in life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement training programs to develop endurance, strength, and racing strategies.
- Teach proper running form, pacing, and recovery techniques.
- Foster a safe and supportive environment for runners of all experience levels.
- Promote team cohesion, respect, and sportsmanship.
- Develop leadership within the team and encourage student-athlete accountability.
- Serve as a mentor and role model, emphasizing character development.
- Prepare athletes for meets through progressive training cycles and mental preparation.
- Organize meet entries, lineups, and team travel logistics.
- Provide guidance and support during competitions and track progress throughout the season.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience coaching cross country or long-distance running.
- Strong knowledge of training principles, race strategy, and athlete development.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Must meet all NFHS and MIAA coaching certification requirements.
