Description
The Head Football Coach will work under the supervision of the Ames High Athletics Director. The Head Football Coach must realize and appreciate the need to be a leader of the Ames High Athletics Department and be highly visible in the Ames Community promoting the sport of football.
Essential Functions:
- Manages and supervises games and practice sessions that promotes safe techniques, individual growth, teamwork, discipline, respect and superior sportsmanship.
- Holds organizational meetings with football staff and students as needed to effectively communicate the vision of Ames High Football. Works with other members of the teaching staff to hold student-athletes accountable academically while monitoring their citizenship in the building and publicly.
- Monitors and enforces code of conduct and eligibility expectations at all times.
- Educates and monitors student-athletes in preventing them from engaging in hazing or bullying type behavior.
- Supervises locker rooms with football staff regularly during the season.
- Works with the equipment manager to secure, clean, properly store and inventory all equipment that is used in the football program.
- Helps develop and foster youth football in the Ames Community.
- Collaborates with the middle school football program to create a strong, unified 7-12 football program.
- Advises student-athletes on NCAA and other college regulations with regards to requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
- Assists the Activities Director with the scheduling of games.
Qualifications:
- Valid Iowa Coaching endorsement.
- Annual concussion certification required.
- Member of the IFCA or other state coaches association preferred.
