Description
Under the direction of the Director of Athletics, the Head Men’s Basketball Coach provides day-to-day oversight of administrative and operational functions for the men’s basketball program. The head Men’s coach will assist in the administration and leadership of the Johnson C. Smith University’s NCAA DII Men’s basketball program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing coaching and instruction, recruiting, facilitation of player development, scouting, preparation of practice activities and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. The Head Men’s Basketball Coach will be responsible for cultivating highly competitive programs within the CIAA, NCAA and Johnson C. Smith University’s policies, procedures, and expectations.
Qualifications:
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in sports, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of experience as a head or associate coach at the collegiate level.
- Must demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel, and word.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required.
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds is an essential skill.
- Must be able to prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with NCAA Compliance Assistant, Eligibility Center, NCAA Transfer and basic Bylaws.
- Familiar with online recruiting systems is preferred.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree.
- Three years’ experience working with college age athletes.
- Three years’ experience NCAA Division II and CIAA policies.
- Three years’ experience in recruiting collegiate athletes at the NCAA/Collegiate level.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit student-athletes with potential for academic and athletic success.
