Saginaw Valley State University, a member of NCAA Division II and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, invites applications for the position of Head Men’s Basketball Coach to develop, promote and supervise all facets of the Men’s Basketball team; develop and execute strategies for the recruitment of student-athletes for a highly visible regionally and nationally competitive team; organize and direct all aspects of the Men’s Basketball program, organizing practice sessions to enhance the team’s performance; supervise staff involved in the program and oversee budget.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain thorough knowledge of, and strict adherence to, NCAA, conference, and university rules. Ensure full compliance by all staff and student-athletes. Uphold ethical standards outlined in NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1.
- Oversee the planning and execution of all practices and games. Develop and implement strategies to build a regionally and nationally competitive program.
- Promote academic achievement, leadership, and personal development for student-athletes with an emphasis on graduation.
- Monitor academic progress in coordination with athletic academic advisors and support services.
- Promote a culture of academic and athletic success through collaboration with strength and conditioning, athletic training, and academic support staff.
- Direct recruiting efforts in compliance with NCAA regulations, including scouting, communication, visits, and talent evaluation.
- Prepare, manage, and maximize the allocation of athletic grants in aid and scholarships.
- Prepare and manage the program’s operating budget. Lead fundraising efforts through camps, clinics, and donor engagement in coordination with the Director of Athletic Development.
- Coordinate team travel, facility usage, scheduling, and procurement of equipment and apparel.
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of four years of coaching experience at the high school, junior college, NCAA Division I/II/III or NAIA levels. Previous head coaching experience preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to follow-through.
- Outstanding media/public relations skills.
- Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software quickly.
