Description
The Head Coach is responsible for fulfilling the mission of Des Moines Christian School by equipping the minds and nurturing the hearts of student athletes through their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual development. This position oversees implementation of sport specific fundamentals and content area that is appropriate for the grade level being coached.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates leadership in all phases of their specific athletic program in collaboration with the Head of Activities. (HA)
- Develops long-range goals and plans to ensure future program success.
- Develops trusting, productive relationships with students in order to create a safe, positive, and productive team environment.
- Works collaboratively with other head coaches with regard to sharing participants and multi-sport athletes.
- Assists in developing athletes physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
- Communicates effectively with players, parents, administration, and the community.
- Utilizes assistant coach(es) for program effectiveness and delegates duties as applicable.
- Ensures athletes are supervised properly during and after road games.
- Assists HA in the hiring and supervision of assistant and volunteer coaches within the program.
- Collaborates with HA for program purchases and equipment needs.
- Coordinates with HA and facilities team in the proper care and management of facilities and equipment.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent, preferred.
- Holds coaching authorization with the State of Iowa or is able to obtain. (Must hold valid authorization prior to working with student/athletes or being hired by DMCS).
- Ability to lift 30 lbs.
- Professing believer in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and committed to growing in relationship with Him.
- In agreement with the Des Moines Christian School Statement of Faith.
- In agreement with the Des Moines Christian School Biblical Convictions for Christian Education.
