Head Track & Field Coach

The Head Men's & Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Coach reports to the Director of Athletics (AD) and is responsible for the planning, organization, performance and conduct of Onondaga Community College's NJCAA Men's & Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Teams.

POSITION RESPONSIBILTIES:

• Teach student-athletes about proper track and field related skills, techniques and overall fitness; provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of the student-athlete.
• Organize, plan and attend practices; offer appropriate meet strategy and tactics; attend all meets.
• Act professionally when communicating with players, coaches, staff, media and individuals in the community; show respect to all involved; be responsible regarding student-athlete conduct before, during and after meets.
• Be knowledgeable of the College's policies and procedures on recruiting, academic programs and philosophy of athletic programs; follow all policies both internally and externally.
• Promote healthy lifestyle choices and habits to our student-athletes.
• Mentor and advise student-athletes through college registration and the transfer process; ensure that academics comes first.
• Monitor student-athlete academic progress at all times; manage the retention alert software program, Lazer Success, for all men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field student-athletes; work with our Director of Sports Medicine and Student-Athlete Support to ensure student-athletes receive the academic support they need.
• Have an operational understanding of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules and requirements; follow these guidelines at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or a foreign equivalency and prior coaching experience in the sport, preferably at the secondary or post-secondary level or an equivalent combination of training and experience;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
