Description
This position is responsible for coaching, character development and providing direction to student athlete so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork in basketball. This position requires one to interact thoughtfully and respectfully with student athletes, fellow coaches, staff, parents, and community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides quality coaching and instruction to students participating in the men’s basketball program
- Plans, directs, and coaches high school men’s basketball program that develops student/athlete’s fullest potential while being regionally competitive and ethically run.
- Ensure South Dakota High School Activities Association rules and regulation compliance.
- Recruit student athletes who can achieve academic and athletic success
- Assist student athletes in realizing individual and team goals.
- Supervises and coordinates basketball events and activities.
- Attends scheduled basketball practices, classes, and all competitions.
- Provides ongoing oversite of student athlete’s conduct both on and off the court.
- Assists with conflict resolution
- Enforces safety regulations and procedures through supervision of students involved in the program.
- Assists the Director of Athletics to schedule events and travel.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the District’s operating requirements, policies, procedures, and practices; and local, state, and federal regulations related to department programs and operations.
- Knowledge of high school basketball.
- Ability to research and analyze detailed information and make appropriate recommendations.
- Ability to develop goals and objectives.
- Ability to prepare, recommend and monitor an operating budget, including line-item budgeting.
- Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures of the District.
- Ability to establish and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations.
- Ability to instruct and train in methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of computer software including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications consistent for this position.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively in English in both written and verbal form.
