Description
Under the direction of the athletic director, the head Volleyball coach is responsible for creating a positive environment where students develop strategic thinking, leadership, and goal-setting skills through athletic training and competition. Coaches maintain a safe environment; establish rapport with students, parents and colleagues; motivate pupils to develop attitudes and knowledge that will help them reach their potential and prepare for local, state and national competitions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Meet the objectives and rules outlined in the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSSA) requirements for the program.
- Knowledge of sports rules and regulations and overall operation of athletic programs.
- Follow policies adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other approved activities.
- Instruct athletes in sportsmanship, moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, citizenship, self-discipline and confidence.
- Meet regular, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance requirements.
- Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught; delegate specific duties, supervise implementation, and at season's end, analyse effectiveness and evaluate all assistant coaches in writing.
- Evaluates student’s academic and social growth, maintains appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
- Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, student planners, school website, and other means, to discuss individual and team progress.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Incumbent must be fingerprinted and clear a criminal backgrounds check.
- Requires knowledge of overall operation of athletic program and Utah High School Activities Association rules and regulations.
- Previous successful experience as a coach desirable.
