Evergreen State College
Description
This position reports to the Associate Director for Intercollegiate Athletics and is part of the Student Wellness, Recreation, and Athletics team. The position requires an understanding of and commitment to the values of The Evergreen State College and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Essential Functions:
- Coach the intercollegiate soccer team during the season, which begins early August and runs through November and during the off-season.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching, and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- Plan and implement practices on the college’s recreational facilities during pre-season, the competitive season, and in the off-season.
- Actively work on recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes on an ongoing basis, including assisting in determining the eligibility of prospective student-athletes in accordance with Cascade Collegiate Conference and NAIA rules.
- Schedule intercollegiate competition in conjunction with the Associate Director for Intercollegiate Athletics
- Schedule practice and game times prior to the season, in coordination with Assistant Director for Recreation Center Operations, and in collaboration with other coaches and staff; submit regular season schedule to Head of Officiating; notify departmental team of team schedule changes, including games, practices, and meetings, which require scheduled classroom or facility time.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of the sport of intercollegiate soccer, including rules, regulations, and strategies.
- Ability to comprehend and follow NAIA and Cascade Conference rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Ability to effectively recruit and retain student-athletes capable of both helping Evergreen be successful on the field and benefiting from the academic experiences provided by the college.
- Cultural awareness and understanding of diverse experiences and ability to work effectively with students and staff who are diverse in areas such as race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, genetic information, disability, or veteran status.
- Understanding of campus support services and working knowledge of the college to make appropriate referrals.
- Knowledge of student development theory to the degree that it has a positive impact on student-athletes, Recreation & Athletics, and Student Affairs.
- Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality of student and all other information and records of a confidential nature.
