Description
The Knight School Teacher will provide support for students working with virtual courses or SOL remediation. Students are working to earn a high school diploma. Students will attend class Monday-Thursday 3:30PM to 6:30PM. Classes will be offered at Lugo-McGinness Academy.
Essential Functions:
- Facilitates the virtual learning (EdGenuiity) instruction for students.
- Instructs students in a program of studies which meets stated objectives and prepares students to master grade level standards.
- Works collaboratively with secondary teachers, administrators, parents, school and agency counselors and related service providers in the overall educational plan for students enrolled at the Knight School.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction and to actively engage students.
- Fully supports and implements Social Emotional Learning, encouraging students to build self-awareness, self-management and relationship skills
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom by providing positive reinforcement of acceptable behaviors and modifying unacceptable behaviors.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
- Communicates regularly with parents or guardians through conferences and other means to discuss student progress.
Education and/or Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable field.
- A valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching Certificate preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
