Description
The Assistant High School Boys Wrestling Coach will support the head coach in developing a comprehensive and competitive boys wrestling program at Fort Morgan High School. This role focuses on advancing individual and team skills, instilling discipline, and promoting sportsmanship. The assistant coach will help facilitate practices, travel to competitions, and contribute to an environment that encourages personal growth, resilience, and respect among athletes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Practice and Training Support: Assist in organizing and conducting daily practices, including warm-ups, drills, conditioning, and wrestling technique training.
- Skill Development: Provide focused instruction on various wrestling techniques, such as takedowns, escapes, and defensive strategies, to help athletes improve their abilities.
- Competition Support: Help manage team logistics, travel arrangements, and meet preparation, including assisting with weigh-ins, warm-ups, and mat-side coaching.
- Promote Sportsmanship and Discipline: Model positive behavior, teamwork, and respect for all athletes, coaches, and officials, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship on and off the mat.
- Safety and Injury Prevention: Ensure the well-being of student-athletes by adhering to safety protocols, monitoring for potential injuries, and collaborating with athletic trainers for injury care and prevention.
- Communication: Maintain effective communication with the head coach, athletes, and parents, ensuring clear expectations, updates on practices, and team events.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; previous wrestling experience (as an athlete or coach) is highly preferred, especially at the high school or competitive level.
- Knowledge of Wrestling Techniques: Strong understanding of wrestling rules, techniques, and strategies, with an emphasis on safety and skill progression.
- Leadership and Motivation: Ability to motivate and positively influence student-athletes to perform at their best while fostering a growth mindset.
- Interpersonal Skills: Effective in building relationships and collaborating with athletes, coaches, and school personnel, fostering a cohesive and supportive team environment.
- Commitment: Availability for after-school practices, weekend meets, and travel, demonstrating dedication to athlete development.
