Description
The hockey referee/supervisor is responsible for knowing and enforcing the rules and regulations of hockey. Their primary responsibilities include enforcing rules of the game, making major calls, and ensuring the overall flow of play. The referee has the authority to assess penalties, award goals, and make decisions on plays.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform pre, during, and post-game duties.
- Ability to communicate quickly and effectively.
- The control of rowdy players and spectators.
- Management of the facility and playing space.
- Quick and sound decision making.
- Ability to be authoritative but respectful in controlling the games.
- Responsible for starting games on time.
- Ensure the rink is free of debris before starting play.
- Enforce all rules in an impartial and professional manner.
- Responsible for keeping games safe and in control.
- Must check player equipment every game to ensure safety and legality of participants.
- Write incident reports.
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must have knowledge of the skills required for officiating hockey
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (training available).
