Description
This position requires flexible afternoon hours. Programs run Monday-Friday from 3-7 pm. Classes are normally scheduled back-to-back, but cancellations may occur and limit coaches to a single class on a given day. Limited weekend hours may be available. Must be able to commit to a class schedule one season ahead of time.
Essential Job Functions:
- Organize, instruct and supervise an instructional sports program or camp.
- Supervise staff and volunteers.
- Coordinate daily lesson plans to show progression of skill.
- Complete written reports as needed and attend scheduled meetings when necessary.
- Maintain positive communication with parents, school staff, parks staff, the public and Sports Division.
- Responsible for the safety and general welfare of the program and participants.
- Responsible for supervision of inclusion companion(s) and/or interpreter, completion of evaluation reports, and verification of companion timecards.
Qualifications:
- Sound philosophy of coaching and teaching with emphasis on fun and development of skills.
- Personal skills in sports specific to position
- Ability to teach sports skills to children in age-appropriate settings
- Ability to teach sports skills with introductions, demonstrations, verbal instructions, give positive and effective feedback to participants and parents.
- Knowledge of age and ability adaptations for activities to ensure equal participation and success.
- Ability to communicate and gain control over a large group of children.
