Description
Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Youth & Family Services, effectively manage and deliver the YMCA’s competitive swim team program (Sailfish) during the spring and summer of 2024, according to the standards and expectations of the Penobscot Bay YMCA. The Interim Coach will ensure the safety of all participants, provide direction and leadership to participants, supervise Assistant Coach(es), engage with parents/guardians, and support the parent group.
INTERIM COACH RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be personally responsible for the life of each and every swimmer while on duty. Be alert, vigilant, and conscientious. Implement proper emergency action procedures, if necessary. Perform appropriate rescues, CPR/AED and basic First Aid, if necessary.
- Provide leadership and direction to Sailfish swim team participants, designing practices, setting goals, and building a positive team environment.
- Manage behaviors to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of all members of the YMCA.
- Know and enforce all facility rules.
- Make sure equipment is properly stored by swim team members.
- Report any issues and keep an open line of communication with the Senior Director of Youth & Families and consult occasionally with the Head Swim Coach, who will be on leave of absence during this time.
- Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor when working with swimmers, parents. co-workers, and members.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Individuals must be at least 21 years of age.
- Certified YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid.
- Demonstrated level of maturity to handle the responsibilities involved in maintaining a safe pool environment and running a workout.
- Have a knowledge of competitive swimming strokes.
