Description
The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach is responsible, along with the head coach, to help student-athletes in their spiritual development. In addition, key duties consist of teaching and developing skill, organization of academics, administration, practice, team travel, and games, player recruitment, promotions, primary programs maintenance, and scouting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience required. A minimum of two to five years coaching experience at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) level is preferred.
- Positive attitude and ability to work effectively with a variety of personalities. Ability to effectively motivate and supervise student-athletes using a traditional, evangelical Christian approach, and willingly support the CCU athletic department.
- Accomplishments in developing basketball skills and bringing out the potential in student-athletes – both in the classroom and on the court.
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of and adherence to all rules and regulations pertaining to the basketball program as established by the NCAA, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), and CCU.
Responsibilities:
- Develop student-athletes in their spiritual walk in Christ by setting a positive example, leading devotions, and developing other social programs to further a traditional, evangelical Christian ministry.
- Counsel and aid student-athletes with attaining career or educational/post college goals, and organize a team retreat.
- Spend significant time teaching techniques to develop skills that will improve individual athletes and the team as a whole. Assess opportunities for improvement through observation of practices and games and provide feedback and coaching to improve individual and team success.
- Mentor student-athletes with their academic success by assisting with planning class schedules, collaborating with the Life Directions Center, monitoring academic progress, communicating with professors, and providing follow up with effective and clear communication.
