Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold valid Rhode Island Teachers’ certificates in Physical Education and Health or the ability to obtain.
- Must have obtained the endorsement in Adapted Physical Education from the Rhode Island Department of Education.
- Capable of teaching K through High School.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education services to students.
- Present instruction and guidance in the area of Health Education, K-12.
- Provide a Physical Education program for identified students consistent with state Physical Education requirements and IEP goals and objectives.
- Encourage students to improve motor skills in order to develop a higher level of physical fitness and to promote lifetime leisure activities.
- Improve social and emotional skills of students through physical activity.
- Identify student needs through psychomotor assessment/evaluation to determine how the student can benefit from regular PE or Adapted PE.
- Develop and implement IEP goals and objectives based on evaluation results and utilize instructional methods and materials that are deemed appropriate for accomplishing stated goals and objectives.
- Modify skills/activities to meet the needs of a student, i.e. change equipment, rules, and time limits.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Develop responsible rules of classroom behavior and maintain order during the physical education class in a fair and just manner.
- Consult with administrators, teachers and parents regarding student progress and/or problems.
