Description
Under general supervision, the employee is responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instruction and instructional environments that help students learn skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Working with administrators, the teacher develops a curriculum plan and lessons consistent with the school's charter and with board directives.
- Read “Teaching Johnny to Think” by Leonard Peikoff.
- Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for the instruction of students in a college preparatory environment.
- Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate
assigned students. - Establishes and maintains standards of student management required to achieve effective participation in all activities.
- Keeps appropriate records.
- Communicates with parents through a variety of means.
- Holds parent conferences to discuss the individual student’s progress and interprets the school program.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service professional development provided by the school and/or professional growth activities.
- Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.

- Skilled in assessment and using its data for teaching and learning.
- Ability to meet the needs of all learners.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and continuously improve instruction.
- Ability to analyze situations, determine possible options, and make appropriate decisions based on the facts.
- Ability to develop and compile records and reports.
- Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things.
- Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with parents, students, teachers, staff, and administrators.
- Ability to manage instructional time.
