PE Teacher – Elementary School

Under the general supervision of the Principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district approved curriculum, documenting student progress and outcomes, addressing specific educational needs of individual students and creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment.

Essential Functions:

• Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
• Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program.
• Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible.
• Teaches physical education classes for handicapped pupils as necessary.
• Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
• Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
• Ability to use computer network systems, technology devices and software applications.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, coworkers and the greater community.
