Description
The Physical Education and Health Teacher plans and administers the PE/Health instructional program in compliance with guidelines and regulations determined by the administration and Department of Education. They will create an environment that encourages learning, motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to establish and continue a firm foundation to perpetuate the learning experience through the middle school developmental opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Health.
- DESE Teaching license- Physical Education and Health.
- Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use technology effectively.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state laws, frameworks and District policies.
- As a middle school physical education and health teacher, your role involves providing students with the knowledge and skills to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.
- Plan and deliver physical education and health lessons: Develop a curriculum that aligns with state standards and create lesson plans that engage students in various physical and health learning activities. These activities may include team sports, individual fitness exercises, dance, gymnastics, and outdoor recreation.
- Teach fundamental skills: Instruct students on the basic techniques and rules of different sports, physical and health activities. Provide demonstrations and give individual feedback to help students improve their skills and enhance their overall fitness levels.
- Promote physical fitness and health wellness: Educate students about the importance of regular physical activity, proper nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices. Encourage students to set personal fitness goals and provide guidance on how to achieve them.
- Ensure safety during physical activities: Establish and enforce safety guidelines and rules to minimize the risk of injuries during class. Teach students proper warm-up exercises, stretching techniques, and injury prevention strategies.
- Assess student performance: Develop appropriate assessment methods to evaluate students' progress and skill development. Administer fitness tests, track individual performance, and provide constructive feedback to help students understand their strengths and areas for improvement.
