Description
Providing physical education & health education for students to increase motor coordination, general game skills, and health awareness in order to create a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
Detailed Responsibilities:
- Write lesson plans and lead activities that correlate to Mass Frameworks across grade levels for P.E. and Health classes.
- Develop and conduct class instruction with integration of Milestones’ therapeutic practices & methodology.
- Maintain solid understanding of accommodations and adaptations for activities and instruction in order to best support student needs and abilities (physical, social emotional, neuro-diversity, learning challenges, processing challenges, sensory processing needs, etc.)
- Check and maintain (or call for maintenance) all sports related equipment.
- Collaborate on progress reports for students with gross motor concerns.
- Work collaboratively with Occupational Therapy staff to increase competence with motor skills
Administer and coordinate yearly Presidential Fitness Challenge. - Help students set fitness goals and monitor over the year to help support maintenance of these goals.
- Coordinate annual Field Day for students.
- Participate in offsite fitness programming, as appropriate (e.g. YMCA).
- Maintain grade book within ALMA system and write report cards quarterly.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Ed., Health and Physical Education or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
- Special Education experience and autism related experience.
- Strong skills with collaboration and interest in hands-on instruction.
- Positive disposition and a team-player mentality.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
