Description
Teaches primary, intermediate, or secondary students in the area of Physical Education/Health. The teacher provides students with a foundation in health and physical education by emphasizing the importance of a balanced and healthy life. Motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment and helps student discover and develop talents in physical achievement.
EXAMPLE (S) of WORK PERFORMED:
- Plans and implement physical education/health lessons based on state standards.
- Plans physical education program to promote development of students’ physical attributes and social skills.
- Teaches individual and team sports to students, utilizing knowledge of sports techniques and of physical capabilities of students.
- Maintains a clean and structured Physical Education classroom that is a safe place for all students.
- Demonstrates appropriate long and short-term preparation for classroom instruction.
- Holds high expectations for all students and sees themselves as facilitators of student learning.
- Organizes and uses a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in-group settings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Classroom management requires daily attendance to meet students’ needs.
- Requires travel to work sites within a building.
- Interprets test results; reviews and interprets printed reports to obtain information necessary for decision-making, planning and management in assigned area(s).
- Operates specialized equipment such as computers, copiers, VCR’s etc.
- Provides written procedures for plan preparation and implementation; communicates student assignments and behavior problems with others in writing.
- Provides instruction to students; discusses education programs with teachers, administrators, and/or citizens; conducts individual or group meetings; works with students to reinforce learning assignments; assists with the supervision of students; discusses student assignments and behavior problems with others.
