Description
The CMU Health and Physical Education (HPE) program in the Department of Physical Education and Sport is recruiting for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the level of assistant or associate professor effective August 2025. Tenure-track faculty in the department generally teach nine-hours per semester while also engaging in service to the department, college, university, and their field of expertise as well as maintain an active research line within their area of expertise.
Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in K-12 Physical Education or related field. Will consider ABD candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor, however, first reappointment will be contingent upon degree completion.
- Three years of successful experience teaching adapted and/or elementary physical education courses in a K-12 school setting.
- Evidence of an active research agenda related to K-12 physical education.
- Demonstrated leadership and collaborative skills.
- Effective oral/written communication skills.
- Proficiency in use of technology.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in K-12 Physical Education, with an emphasis in motor development, adapted physical education, and/or elementary methods.
- Five years of successful experience teaching adapted and/or elementary physical education courses in a K-12 school setting.
- Experience teaching at the university level.
- Evidence of involvement with professional associations and/or organizations associated with school physical education policy and promotion.
