The Physical Education Teacher, in conjunction with their fellow department members, is responsible for the educational experience and oversight of students ranging from grades Pre-Kindergarten through 8. The Physical Education Teacher focuses on the health and wellness of our student body, with an emphasis on physical fitness, developing athletic skills, and a lifelong love of fitness. The individual in this position works closely with the Physical Education Department Chair, the Directors of Lower and Middle School, colleagues, students, and parents.
A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience preferred.
Fitness background and/or coaching experience is preferred.
Strong communication skills for working effectively with colleagues and parents.
Educational philosophy that is consistent with that of the School.
Teach Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8 Physical Education.
Participate in extracurricular athletic offerings.
Plan and execute lessons that are in accord with the Physical Education Department’s curriculum and the School’s educational philosophy.
Maintain an updated web presence through the School’s website that includes the course syllabus.
Work as a team member with teaching colleagues and administrators by attending all department meetings, divisional faculty meetings, and in-service days as well as serving on committees as needed.
Create and maintain an appropriate classroom environment and help enforce school expectations
Communicate with parents in an effective and timely manner.
Complete student assessment reports (i.e., grades reports, interim comments, etc.) following guidelines and in accordance with deadlines established by the Division Directors.
Commit to ongoing professional growth by participating in the School’s formative development process.
Fulfill duties that are connected with non-academic responsibilities, e.g., taking attendance, covering study halls and other assignments, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
