Physical Education Teacher

This is an exciting opportunity for a secondary physical education teaching position that provides education services to a variety of students in a rural junior/senior high school setting. Santiam Canyon School District operates on a 4-day school week and is located near the Salem area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
• Plans a program of study that meets learning standards and the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
• Plans and supervises purposeful and engaging lessons.
• Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
• Instructs students and assigns relevant independent work.
• Grades papers, assignments and assessments promptly and accurately.
• Tests and evaluates students abilities and progress. Have knowledge of state standards and testing requirements and how to implement these assessments.
• Prepares report cards and progress reports.
• Facilitates conferences with students and parents.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) or equivalent from four-year college or university or at least one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Master's degree (M.A.) or equivalent strongly preferred.
• Must be highly qualified under the reauthorized ESEA.
• Prior successful experience teaching students in a school setting strongly preferred.
