Description
An Elementary School teacher at Old Mission Peninsula School (OMPS) is responsible for the education of Elementary students assigned to his or her class, and is responsible for working with students, parents, other teachers and staff, and the school leadership toward achieving the mission and goals of OMPS. Teachers should embrace a growth mindset, a culture of collaboration, and lifelong learning. Classroom teachers report to the Principal.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support the vision and mission of Old Mission Peninsula School.
- Model enthusiasm for learning.
- Strategically plan the year’s learning objectives.
- Work with Special Education staff to plan for and meet the needs of students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and English Language Learners (ELLs). Differentiate instruction and provide accommodations and supports as needed. Actively seek to improve knowledge and skills to better address the needs of special education students and ELLs.
- Develop and revise clear criteria and standards for quality work and regularly examine student work to ensure that it meets increasingly higher standards of quality.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student work using multiple assessment tools including anecdotal records, performance assessments with rubrics, exams, and individualized assessments as appropriate. Use assessment data to plan for instruction and to set short and long-range goals. Ensure collection and submission of data.
- Regularly analyze student data to improve instruction and make program recommendations and improvements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and appropriate Teaching Certificate/Licensure.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with parents.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to individual’s specific needs.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to differences and changes in characteristics of students, programs, leadership, staff and community.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize varied teaching methodologies to accommodate students’ unique learning styles.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate tests and measurements of achievement.
