Physical Education Teacher

The Alfond Youth and Community Center is looking for a fun individual who is passionate about helping kids stay healthy. The AYCC is looking for a Physical Education Teacher who is able to encourage the children in our Afterschool Program in their physical fitness journey. The AYCC is Maine's largest licensed childcare facility and the children we serve all have many unique strengths and talents. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Plan and implement daily curriculum for children during out of school time which teaches various athletics, sports fundamentals, sportsmanship, and health and wellness.
• Plan and implement weekly gym classes and/or wellness activities with the AYCC Preschool program, Afterschool/Summer Enrichment Program participants, and with homeschool or other community groups.
• Collect and track data for specific programming to comply with certain grant requirements.
• Maintain and organize gym equipment, advising on needs and creating a yearly budget with the program supervisor.
• Lead by example and direction, expressing importance of a) core values – respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty, b) student safety, and c) enthusiastic fulfillment of program objectives.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

• Display role model behavior.
• Ability to observe student behavior and assess its appropriateness, enforce relevant safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
• Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill level) and provide necessary instruction to children.
• Excellent communication skills along with the skills necessary to work with groups of children made up of different ages and skill levels.
• Emotional and mental maturity along with training or skills in problem solving.
• Ability, desire and basic skills to work with children are mandatory.
