Description
In the setting of an outpatient surgical center, the Physical Therapist will provide high quality services to patients immediately recovering from surgery and seeking to be discharged home same day. The therapist will provide patients with pre operative education prior to surgery and then conduct evaluation and treatment services immediately following the procedure to assist in regaining function and ensuring readiness for discharge. They direct patient participation in activities and exercise programs to restore, reinforce and enhance performance, while performing exceptional patient care.
Primary Functions & Accountabilities:
- Teaches patients how to properly use therapeutic exercise techniques.
- Educates patient and families on injury prevention and post operative care.
- Assists patients with the use of equipment such as wheelchairs or walkers.
- Assesses patient individualized needs for accessing home environment.
- Maintains patient records and documents goals and progress.
- Schedules patients effectively for best time utilization.
- Interprets and organizes evaluation and assessment data.
- Utilizes knowledge of patient's diagnosis, signs, and symptoms presented and results of diagnostic studies to determine the patient's level of function.
- Sets priorities and establishes realistic short-term goals and long-term outcomes.
