Physical Therapist

JOB GOAL/PURPOSE:

Identifies and provides supports to address a multitude of areas including gross motor and developmental motor skills, ambulation, gait training, wheelchair mobility, and positioning needs that impact school participation, transitions toward employment, community integration and continued education.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s Degree or higher in Physical Therapy.
• Massachusetts State License as Physical Therapist.
• Exceptions to the above qualifications shall be made as the Superintendent deems appropriate and acceptable.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Addresses the needs of diverse learners in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
• Supports all students in accordance with the Massachusetts Multi-Tiered Systems
  of Supports.
• Evaluates the student’s ability through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews and provides a written report of testing results.
• Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, provide recommendations using a team approach, and develops Individual Education Programs (IEPs).
• Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and physical performance within the school environment as outlined in the student’s IEP.
• Adapts and modifies the environment including use of equipment and training instructional staff to meet individual needs and to help students function as independently as possible.
• Educates student, educational personnel, and family to facilitate skills in areas of safe lifting, positioning, assisted ambulation, gross motor programs and/or equipment use as well as health maintenance and safety.
• Documents physical therapy services to ensure accountability of service provision and to meet standards for reimbursement of services as appropriate including Medicaid billing.
