Description
JOB GOAL:
To render services to the physically handicapped children and to promote as high a level as feasible in mobility and independence in activities of daily living.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assesses motor functioning.
- Assesses the use and advisability of assistive devices.
- Determines treatment plan and special needs.
- Provides instruction in the application of physical agents to relieve pain or alter psychological states.
- Provides instruction to those directly involved with the handicapped student in the proper procedures for lifting, transferring, and positioning the student.
- Participates in the development and writing of I.E.P.s.
- Consults with physicians delivering primary care to the child and makes medical and/or clinical referrals as necessary.
- Consults with teachers and other school staff regarding the student’s ability and special needs in the classroom.
- Counsels parents in determining and meeting the student’s needs, reports progress, and gives home programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in physical therapy from an accredited college or university, or a certificate in physical therapy.
- Valid license through the South Carolina State Board of Examination and Registration of Physical Therapists.
- Supervised experience with handicapped students is preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
