Description
To create a classroom environment that fosters and promotes an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develops talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaches PE to Pre-K through eighth grade students.
- Integrates standards of physical education into the program.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Communicates with parents to discuss students’ progress as needed.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service and professional growth activities.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as needed.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
- Demonstrates a commitment to best practice in all dimensions of effective teaching.
- Works cooperatively with the other physical education teacher in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
- Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree of related subject from accredited university.
- Illinois teaching certificate or equivalent teaching experience.
- Experience is preferred but not necessary for hiring.
