Description
The Strength and Conditioning Staff provides comprehensive training programs to the student-athletes of George Mason University. These programs are to be designed to decrease the occurrence of preventable injury, enhance athletic performance, and provide the student-athlete with a better understanding of oneself, in a safe and efficient manner.
Responsibilities:
- Operates in all areas of responsibility within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Atlantic-10 Conference (A-10), and George Mason University (GMU) guidelines;
- Assists the Head Strength and Conditioning Coordinator in developing and implementing comprehensive training programs for 3-4 teams and provides a safe environment for the University’s student-athletes; and
- Programs are to be designed to reduce injury, enhance athletic performance and provide the student-athlete with a better understanding of oneself.
Administration of the Weight Room and Equipment Maintenance Programs: - Assists in scheduling facility use by intercollegiate athletic teams and individual student-athletes; and
- Responsible for Strength & Conditioning equipment maintenance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or another related field of study;
- First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain;
- CSCS Certification (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) from the NSCA or hold a SCCC Certification (Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified) from the CSCCa;
- Demonstrated experience as a strength and conditioning coach at a university, NCAA or professional level;
- Experience in general maintenance and repair of a weight room;
- Experience in working with student-athletes from diverse backgrounds;
- Solid working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training;
- Working knowledge in strength and conditioning programming for college athletes;
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations;
- Knowledge in designing and implementing fitness regimens.
