Description
The role of the Strength and Conditioning Coach is to provide leadership, supervision, and organization of a specific athletic activity, and to carry out the objectives of the total athletic program. This includes helping each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and an increased level of self-esteem.
Qualifications:
- Valid coaching license through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners or the ability to obtain it prior to the start of the season.
- Strong knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, instruct, and supervise students athletes and a coaching staff.
- Ability to work under pressure and remain calm.
- Proficient in organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Essential Functions:
- Formulate objectives for the coming sport season as it would pertain to player personnel and assistant coaching responsibilities.
- Keep abreast of new ideas and techniques by attending clinics and workshops, reading in his/her field and encouraging the assistant coaches to do the same.
- Be knowledgeable of rules and regulations concerning his/her sport, and changes which occur.
- Be active in professional organizations such as the state coaches association.
- Inventory, selection, care and maintenance of equipment.
